RISK cap removal tool for Shimano Hollowtech II

published on 28/12/2020 by Remo Knops

In this article I will briefly review pre-load-cap removal tool for Shimano Hollowtech II cranks from the brand Risk. I’ve ordered this tool from Aliexpress for a lightweight on-the-go toolbox scenario.

I will compare it against the Park Tool BBT-10.2 Adjusting Cap tool and relate it to the PB Swiss Tools 470.M Adapter.

4iiii Precision Power Meter Review

published on 03/07/2017 by Remo Knops

The 4iiii Precision power meter is a relative new crank based power meter from Canadian company 4iiii Innovations. The 4iiii Precision power meter comes in different crank lengths for all major Shimano groupsets from 105 (5800), Shimano Ultegra (6800) up to Shimano Dura Ace (9000).

The 4iiii Precision power meter comes with the free 4iiii Device Configuration app for Android and iOS. The Dura Ace 9000 version can be upgraded to a dual Precision Pro power meter system and is used as such by professional World Tour cycling teams Ettixx Quick Step and Bora Hansgrohe.

Wheelsmfg FIX-BOLT-1 for Shimano Dura Ace 9000

published on 05/10/2016 by Remo Knops

Sometimes small details on your road bike make a big difference. The Wheelsmfg FIX-BOLT-1 replaces the black plastic crank arm fixing bolt for Shimano Dura Ace 9000 with a grey anodized  6061 aluminium version. The Wheels Manufacturing crank fixing bolt is compatible with other Shimano HollowTech II crank-sets as well.

In this article I will briefly look at the design and compare it with the original Shimano crank fixing bolt.

Pioneer Pedaling Monitor System review

published on 15/08/2016 by Remo Knops

A Pioneer Pedaling Monitor System is my newest cycling gadget for the 2016 season. I’ve purchased a Pioneer Dura Ace 9000 Single Leg Power Meter model SGY-PM910HL and combined it with the Pioneer SGX-CA500 cycle computer (and thus Pioneer Cyclo Sphere – Analysis Software).

This Pioneer Pedaling Monitor System provides rich measurement of force and force-direction every 30 degrees (12 times per revolution) and calculates the HDpower metrics like pedaling efficiency. I can upgrade to a dual leg power meter system at a later point in time to match the professional cycling teams Giant Alpecin and Lotto Jumbo.

In the article I will describe the different components and briefly share my initial thoughts on each of them. I’ll probably write some more in depth articles on one or more of the components.
