Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB review

In this article I will have a look at the Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB, which I’ve used with both the Freekey key chain and the Keysmart Extended 2.0. I’ve reviewed the Keysmart Extended 2.0 not that long ago.

I like to keep some important information on a Bitlocker To Go encrypted USB drive, but unfortunately the plastic back-part  of the Transcend JetFlash T3 USB Drive broke.

Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB

The Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB is the result of my search for a new more durable (than plastic) USB drive that can be attached to a keychain. You can read the following description on the product page on the Kingston website

“Kingston’s DataTraveler® SE9 USB Flash drive has a stylish metal casing with a large ring so it will attach easily. The small form factor makes it a great accessory for all devices that offer USB ports. Its durable casing lets users securely carry this drive everywhere they go with their new devices. “

The picture above shows the Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB, where you can clearly see the cap less design and the champagne colored metal casing with a large ring to attach it to a key chain.

It is lightweight, durable and robust. The Kingston DataTraveler SE9 is designed by Arman Emami and has been awarded with a Red Dot Design Award in 2012. I totally agree that it is a minimalist by very effective design.

Concluding thoughts and wrap-up

I’m using the Kingston DataTraveler SE9 for a few months now and I’m very pleased with the product design.

First the large ring makes it possible to perfectly fit on my Freekey key chain, without the need of an extra small split ring. The Kingston DataTraveler SE9 also works flawlessly with the Keysmart Extended 2.0. I only purchased the Keysmart USB Adapter and the Kingston DataTraveler SE9 is kept organized

Second is the metal casing is very robust and scratch resistant, with absolutely no signs of paint that peels off. 🙂

I bought the Kingston DataTraveler SE9 on www.interngeheugen.com for the price point of €9,95. For me these is a very reasonable price/storage-space ratio.

If you are looking for a robust, compact and well designed USB drive for a good price, the Kingston DataTraveler SE9 is a perfect option!
