Truecrypt 6.0 – Free Open-Source On-the-fly Encryption

Last Friday a new version of the free encryption program Truecrypt is released. This encryption software is available for the large software platforms Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Therefore it’s available for a wide public, and the best thing it’s freeware.

Personally I use this software for quite some years to protect my important personal data, with the strong AES Rijndael algorithm. I’ve used the software for external harddisks as well as usb-sticks, and perhaps the Dutch Military should use this software, since confidential material got on the streets by usb-stick.

Not only physical drives can be encrypted, but also virtual drives. Within the encrypted volume it’s possible to make an hidden volume to provide an additional security layer. It’s also possible to make an encryption basket-file, where you put your information. In short there are 101 ways to use this program, it’s very easy to use and if your notebook goes into sleeping mode the encrypted drives are unmounted.

This software is worth to check out, and if it sounds difficult there is a real nice beginners tutorial available as well as more advanced information. Simply give it a try, download over here, and have fun with your vault !!
